Mercury Music Prize gibt Nominierungen bekannt |

LONDON, 21.07.2010 (100). Alternative-Rocker Biffy Clyro, die Newcomer The xx, die Soulsängerin Corinne Bailey Rae und Modfather Paul Weller können sich unter anderem Hoffnung auf den begehrten Barclaycard Mercury Prize machen.
Im Hospital Club in Covent Garden wurden am 20. Juli die Nominierungen für den diesjährigen Kritikerpreis für das beste britische Album bekannt gegeben. Ebenfalls im Rennen um Ruhm und £20,000 Preisgeld sind I Am Kloot, Villagers, Kit Downes Trio, Foals, Mumford & Sons, Laura Marling und Wild Beasts.
Der Mercury Music Prize, benannt nach dem ursprünglichen Sponsor Mercury Communications, wurde 1992 ins Leben gerufen, um ein Gegengewicht zum Brit Award zu schaffen, der nach Meinung von Kritikern zu stark von der Musikindustrie bestimmt wird.
Der Mercury Prize zeichnet das beste britische Album der vergangenen 12 Monate aus, unabhängig vom Genre und von Verkaufszahlen. Die allererste Trophäe ging an Primal Scream und "Screamadelica". 2009 wurde Speech Debelle für ihr HipHop-Album "Speech Therapy" ausgezeichnet.
Der Barclaycard Mercury Prize 2010 wird am 7. September in London verliehen. Weitere Infos unter www.mercuryprize.com.
